Parable of the Beautiful Sunset

by Phoebe

This is of a parable that I wrote for Hermeneutics class and the painting that I did to depict the parable.

A father brought his three children for their regular evening walk to a nearby park and said to them with a smile, “Today there is a special treasure in the park. Let’s see if you can find it.” The first child walked along and saw an unusually huge pile of dried leaves gathered by the park sweeper. The first child thought the gathered dried leaves was something unusual and the treasure mentioned by his father was inside. So he stood by the pile of dried leaves and looked curiously at it.

The second child walked swiftly along the usual route that he took with his father and thought to himself, “We have walked too many times in this park. There is nothing special here.”

The third child took a slow walk, quietly observing what is around him. Soon, he noticed a beautifully carved wooden bench which was newly placed in the park. Immediately, he went to sit on it and when he looked up, there before him was the resplendent sky against the setting sun and the peaceful lakewaters. He took in a deep breath as he admired the beautiful scenery. His father sat beside him and said proudly, “My good son, you have found the treasure.”
